Daily Painting Practice- Hidden Horizon

Hidden Horizon
20" x 24"
oil on masonite

I think I have the best job in the world. Tonight while everyone was driving home from work in a snow storm, I was able to stay nice and warm in my basement studio and paint a lovely summer landscape.
Some may recognize this one. I started it late last summer as a plein air painting and never finished it. You can see how I left it (here).

This is one of my 25 challenge paintings. I am not quite sure if it is completed or not. I am at that stage where I could keep pushing paint for no reason other than I think I should, or I can put it aside and look at it fresh in a week or so.... Or I could ask all of you who read this blog. I welcome any and all critiques. What do you think? Am I finished?

You're FINISHED - don't touch it!

You have no idea how excited I am that you finished this painting - I've been wonering what happened to it ever since you posted it last year (seriously - I was even going to ask whether this was one you were planning to finish). I don't know why but I just love it - so moody!

Um, that would be "wondering". I can't spell =)

Is there something you could add to move the eye around the foreground more? Otherwise it is done, I would think.

Beautiful work, Peter. I would hesitate to change anything, but I would love to see a bit more of the distant hills and water line.

I agree with Stacey. Don't touch it!
It's gorgeous. The foreground is vivid, the center area is well in focus and the distant horizon is hazy as it should be. A real winner.

Beautiful! I would vote finished, anything more and it runs the risk of becoming overworked. This is fresh and has soul.

WOW! What a great response. Thanks to all of you. I really appreciate the thoughtful and encouraging words. I am leaning towards the leave it alone crowd but James and Ed have caught something that needs to be addressed.

Stacey- I remembered your comment from the first posting. You got me thinking this could be a finished piece. So, thanks the fact hat a great landscape painter like yourself likes it is very encouraging.

James- Thanks for giving it the once over. There may be a twig or two that can be sharpened to establish the foreground better.

Ed- Thanks - My wife agrees with you about the distant hills. So i'll be looking at it carefully.

AG, Silvina, Materese - Thank you. It really does make a difference when your peers give the thumbs up on a painting.

it's so hard nt to ruin the feeling of a plein air paiting onec you get back into the studio - but you succeeded! I think its done. very peaceful.

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't put anything more in the foreground. Just my opinion if anyone was wonering. (Sorry Stacy....couldn't resist)
