Starting a new large painting and the little daily at the same time. The large painting is the local flower market. I'll show you progress photos along the way. I thought the difference in the sizes was interesting.
I started with a pencil drawing on a pre-toned canvas board.
Put in the darks and keep it loose and wet.
Next those beautiful pinks of the peonies and start the lights on the roses.

I picked these this morning after we had severe thunderstorms last night. The wind and rain have really beat down the peonies but the roses have popped open with today's sun. I guess I may be nearing the end of peony season and the beginning of rose season.

Peter, this is so lovely! I went "oooooo" when I first saw the thumbnail. You knew just when to stop, before working it too much, a skill that I continue to work for.
That background tone that you utilize often is really classic looking- so appropriate.
Do you use a pre-prepared canvas board or make your own. I noticed that the edges are wrapped and wondered if you wrapped your own. I usually just mount the canvas on masonite and cut off the excess, but the wrapped edge looks better if someone wants to display the painting in as easel.
