I started trying out new compositions that would highlight this orange azalea flower.
I ended up liking the flower in the pot all by its self. I began with a charcoal sketch for the layout. The panel was toned weeks ago and dry so I could jump right into painting.
I was having so much fun I forgot to take progress photos.

I will use this color study to do a final finished piece for the show in September.I hope you like it.

Beautiful - I loved all the compositions - don't know how you picked a favorite. Either way the painting is wonderful.
This one is lovely, Peter. Nice and loose . . .I want to reach out and touch it! Nice!
Best!

peter, nice one. I especially like the subtle design on the vase, particularly that bit of violet.
I'm admiring the black vase, as well. Very nice.
Gorgeous azalea. Your compostions are quite graceful.
Very nice and great brushwork. It is so nice that you show the stages in between. Cheers..Nue
