Yesterday our small Plein Air group painted at the (Mount Vernon Gardens Park) in Omaha. It is a beautiful little park built in the early 1930's to replicate George Washington's home in Mount Vernon, Virginia.(only half the originals size). Though beautiful, it took a while to find something I wanted to paint. I finally decided on this large maple tree.
Of course the sun played hide and seek behind the clouds. And the mosquitoes had a picnic on my arms but overall it was a lovely day. I really liked how the sun lit up the tops of the hedge rows. Notice how the painting seems so much warmer in the sunlight compared to the studio photo below.

We had a new person join our group yesterday, Jackie Newell. Jacki does wonderful plein air work. Our plein air group must be getting very brave. Next week we all decided to paint in downtown Omaha at the Old Market...at lunch time...yikes.

Your plein air work is taking on a look of it's own. This one is my favorite thus far and is so nice! You've taken an average scene and made something magical from it. The subtle color palette and soft brushwork captures an atmospheric look and you've achieved great depth in this painting with the color changes and those shrubs in the foreground "lay" down so convincingly. Wow, I guess I REALLY like this one!
